The first 90 days at a new job

Those first 90 days basically set the tone for your whole reputation at the company. But don’t stress—you don’t need to prove you’re a genius on day one. The real goal is to quickly figure out the team’s vibe, what the priorities are, and where you can actually be useful.

Korak 1

Month one: observe and map the terrain

In the beginning, keep your ears open and your mouth mostly closed. Take time to understand the processes, the key players, and the unwritten rules before you try to change how everything works.

Korak 2

Month two: deliver a few small wins

Pick a couple of tasks you can knock out of the park quickly. Showing people some actual, visible results early on builds trust way faster than just talking about grand plans.

Korak 3

Month three: confirm alignment

Check in with your boss, ask for some honest feedback, and make sure you’re focusing on the right things. This is the perfect time to tweak your goals, show some real initiative, and plan out your next quarter.

90-day checklist

#1 In your very first week, ask your manager what a "great start" looks like to them.
#2 Map out the most important people, tools, and deadlines you need to care about.
#3 Wrap up 2 or 3 solid, visible tasks by the end of your second month.
#4 Set up a proper feedback session during month three to see how you’re doing.

FAQ

Should I show initiative immediately?

Yes, but read the room first. Jumping in blindly can just make you look careless. Your ideas will land much better once you actually understand how the team operates.

What if the onboarding process is a mess?

It happens a lot. If that’s the case, you have to build your own structure: keep a running list of questions, ask for quick 1-on-1s, and get your main priorities confirmed in writing.
