How to read a job offer before saying yes

Listen, a job offer is so much more than just that flashy salary number at the top of the email. Sometimes the fine print about bonuses, probation periods, and working hours can really catch you off guard. That’s why you have to read everything before signing on the dotted line.

Korak 1

Separate fixed from variable pay

Always separate your guaranteed base pay from the "potential" bonuses. You plan your life around the fixed part; treat the variable stuff as a nice cherry on top, not a guarantee.

Korak 2

Check the operational details

What’s their actual remote work policy? Do they expect you to travel constantly or reply to Slack messages on a Sunday night? Interviewers love to gloss over this stuff, but it’s what actually determines your work-life balance.

Korak 3

Read the exit terms too

Nobody wants to think about quitting before they even start, but probation periods, contract length, and notice clauses matter a lot. A genuinely good offer is crystal clear about how the job begins and how it could end.

Offer review checklist

#1 Split the guaranteed salary from the extra bonuses in your mind.
#2 Double-check the probation period, contract type, and notice terms.
#3 If anything sounds vague, ask them to put it in writing before you sign.
#4 Look at the whole package and see if it actually matches your life priorities, not just the fancy job title.

FAQ

Is a verbal explanation enough?

Honestly, no. Anything that impacts your money, your schedule, or your flexibility absolutely needs to be documented in writing.

Should I accept a strong offer immediately?

You don’t have to! It is completely normal and expected to take a day or two to review everything, especially if you’re leaving another job for it.
