How to change Poreska prijava and activate deduction?

The golden rule of every salary calculation in Serbia is as follows: the employer pays the salary exclusively based on your current data in the tax record, which they pull through an online connection and service (Tax Administration) from your file! If a child, a person with zero income, or a determined civil disability is not processed and registered by the worker in the centralized tax register, that attribute will not exist at all! Accounting departments are not allowed to touch this themselves. You must provide them with a valid and up-to-date new record!

Option A: Digital path via eUprava (Fastest & Recommended)

Absolute recommendation. Today, hardly anyone physically goes to registration offices to register changes. The Tax Administration has integrated a very high-quality mechanism that saves you months of time in applications.

Steps from the comfort of your home

  1. Log in to the national e-Government service eUprava using Sistem eID.
  2. Select the tax administration system option from the service list.
  3. Within the portal, select the module for tax returns and data changes.
  4. Add a dependent member, mark the relationship (e.g., Child 1), enter the ID number (JMBG) and attach proof (PDF scan or photo of the birth certificate).
  5. A clerk will process the request in a few days. You will receive a notification of change in your e-Inbox.
  6. Important: Be sure to forward the change information to the human resources department or accounting in your company.

Option B: Physical submission

For those who do not use digital services, the procedure requires going to the competent branch of the Tax Administration according to your residence.

  • Fill in and sign the appropriate tax return form.
  • Attach birth certificates for children or other proof of dependent members.
  • After certification by the clerk, submit a copy to your employer.

Retroactive period (Annual tax return)

If you forgot to report the deduction on time, the state charged you more tax. However, it's not lost! The correction process happens through the annual personal income tax return where the Tax Administration can return the overpaid tax after processing all data.
